The quality and effectiveness of our programs and services are dependent upon the volunteer efforts of our member school administrators through their work on our various committees. Please consider volunteering! We encourage new faces to join the network of those who help make CAS-CIAC the premiere education organization in Connecticut.

Serving on a committee is not time-intensive or burdensome; and members find that the experience of being active at the state level is valuable to them as individuals as well as to their schools as a whole. Our committee work spans a wide range of areas, from student leadership to sports to recognition. Check out the list of options and volunteer for a committee(s) of interest!

CAS - PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMITTEES

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS' CONFERENCE PLANNING COMMITTEE (elementary, middle and high) - plans the annual Conference for School Office Personnel, a professional development day for school and central office administrative staff members

CONNECTED EDUCATOR COMMITTEE (elementary, middle and high) - explores different uses of technology tools to facilitate online meetings, conversations, and professional learning opportunities in which our members can participate without leaving their schools

EARLY CHILDHOOD COMMITTEE (elementary) - meets to discuss exemplary early childhood practices/programs, plan workshops and conferences and track legislation concerning early childhood education

SPECIAL EDUCATION COMMITTEE (elementary, middle and high) - a new committee designed to stay abreast of evolving special education policies and practices that can be compiled and shared as resources with principals

CAS - RECOGNITION COMMITTEES

ARTS COMMITTEE (elementary) – plans the annual elementary arts recognition events held at the Aqua Turf each February

EXEMPLARY EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR EVALUATION COMMITTEE (elementary, middle and high) - selects winners of the Exemplary Educator of the Year Award and plans/supports celebrations for them

EXEMPLARY FIRST-YEAR PRINCIPAL EVALUATION COMMITTEE (elementary, middle and high) - selects winners of the Outstanding First Year Principal Award and plans/supports celebrations for them

EXEMPLARY SCHOOL CLIMATE COMMITTEE - (elementary and middle) visits schools to evaluate/certify them for exemplary school climate practices

EXEMPLARY SCHOOL OF THE YEAR EVALUATION COMMITTEE (elementary and middle) - selects winners of the School of the Year Award and plans/supports celebrations for them (selection process involves site visits to nominated schools)

GOVERNOR'S SCHOLAR COMMITTEE (high) - oversees the selection process for the Governor’s Scholars Program, which honors the top junior-year scholars in CT (two meetings per year)

HALL OF HONOR COMMITTEE (Elementary, middle and high) - reviews nominations and selects inductees for CAS-CIAC Hall of Honor

CANHS ADVISORY COMMITTEE (middle and high) - helps plan and promote activities for local NHS/NJHS chapters

CASC STUDENT LEADERSHIP ADVISORY COMMITTEE (middle and high) - helps plan and promote activities for student council members and advisors

DEBATE COMMITTEE (middle) - plans and promotes debate activities and tournaments for middle level students

KiDSMARATHON COMMITTEE (elementary) - helps plan and promote regional final mile celebrations for KiDSMARATHON, an eight- to ten-week nutritional and fitness regimen for students ages 5-12

LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE COMMITTEE (elementary and middle) - plans regional leadership conferences for elementary and middle level students

ARTS COMMITTEE (middle) - plans and organizes a day-long visual arts conference for middle level students

CIAC - SPORTS COMMITTEES

CIAC sports committees meet approximately four times per year and direct the policies and practices in place during the regular season as well as post-season. Middle level and elementary school principals and assistants are eligible to serve on CIAC committees if interested. Sports with asterisks are non-sanctioned and/or considered student activities.

UNIFIED SPORTS® (middle and high)

CIAC - MISCELLANEOUS COMMITTEES

COOPERATIVE TEAM COMMITTEE - establishes conditions for the formation of cooperative athletic teams between two or more member high schools; approves or disapproves applications for co-op team agreements; and, monitors approved co-op teams’ compliance with rules and regulations

MICHAELS CUP COMMITTEE - selects and presents awards to member schools for ongoing efforts and exemplary achievements in the area of sportsmanship

OFFICIALS COMMITTEE – negotiates/sets regular season and tournament fees for officials of all CIAC-sponsored sports and handles any grievances relative to their working conditions

SEASON LIMITATIONS COMMITTEE – establishes all starting and closing dates for all sports; deals with any concerns which are related to these dates; and determines the specific seasons sports are to be played

SPORTSMANSHIP COMMITTEE – oversees annual high school sportsmanship conference and related statewide sportsmanship initiatives
