The CT Middle School Debate League held its largest tournament to date on Saturday, April 21, at Eastern Middle School in Greenwich!  Two hundred twenty-four debaters from twenty-three schools combined into eighty-one teams to debate the motion: This House believes that Artificial Intelligence will do more good than harm.

Four schools debated for the first time at this tournament!

Proposition prevailed in 57% of the debates.  The team of Abhi Aitha and Grace Flynn from Westfield / Watkinson won the Final Round on Opposition.  Bejay Mugo from The Ethel Walker School took the first place speaker award.  Click here for complete tournament results.

It’s a lot of work pulling off a big tournament.  Huge thanks to Bruce Johnson and the Eastern Middle School community for hosting.  Massive thanks to our fabulous judges, including many high school debaters, who spent a beautiful spring day judging.  Thanks to everyone who helped out in Tab.  And we are always grateful to the Greenwich Branch of the English Speaking Union and Director Robert Whitby for sponsoring the League.

Please send any great photos to me at jendotposneratctmsdebatedotorg so we can continue to promote the League and attract additional schools.

A NOTE TO COACHES:

Our annual spring Coaches’ Meeting will be held on WEDNESDAY MAY 16 AT 4:00 PM at the CT Association of Schools, 30 Realty Drive, Cheshire.  PLEASE RSVP to Jen and let me know if you can attend and whether you will be attending in person or virtually.
